Chess for Kids: New and Experienced Players
Thursdays, 4:30pm - 5:30pm, 8 weeks
January 19 to March 8, $130
Chess helps develop critical reasoning skills; improve academic performance; and build sportsmanship, self-confidence, and discipline.Each class includes a fun mix of more-formal instruction, practical exercises, and playing opportunities, with separate instruction for different skill levels. The course culminates with a special, multi-week, round-robin chess tournament. Grades K and up.
Pilot Ground School
Wednesdays, 4:30pm - 5:30pm, 8 weeks
January 18 to March 7, $140
Prepare for take-off! Students learn about the science of flight in a fun program that simulates the actual instruction received by student pilots. Students are introduced to the basics of aerodynamics and aeronautics while constructing two take-home aircraft models. Instruction culminates with each student conducting actual missions using our flight simulation software. Grades 1 and up.
Fridays, 4:30-5:30 ~ 8 weeks
January 20 to March 9, $130
Build and control an actual robot! Students are introduced to the basics of robotics while working hands-on with various robotic systems, including Lego Mindstorms NXT 2.0. Students design and construct different robots and then use computers to teach them to move, react, and solve various challenges, with separate instruction for new and returning students. Grades 2 and up.
Tuesdays, 4:30pm-5:30pm ~ 8 weeks
January 17 to March 6, $120
Enter the world of avatars! Students are introduced to the basics of game development while learning to use the exciting new Kodu software. Kodu is a visual programming language designed to be accessible to children and made specifically for creating games. Students then design and build their own 3-D video games, with separate instruction for new and returning students. Grades 2 and up.
Mondays, 4:30pm-5:30pm ~ 8 weeks
January 16 to March 5, $120
Surf your own site on the Net! Students develop, write, design, and post their own websites using actual website programs and tools. Focus is on the imaginative and creative use of technology to sythesize content and design. Grades 2 and up.
